Chamber of Commerce sponsors Magnetic Main Street fundraiser

The Second annual Magnetic Main Street fundraiser, sponsored by the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, will be at 5 p.m. Thursday on the north side of the courthouse square.

Donors can win gift certificates from area restaurants and businesses, tickets to entertainment venues and more. More than 250 prize packages are available with prizes totaling more than $4,000 in value.

“We had such a good time with the event last year we had to do it again,” said Karen Liebl, Newton Main Street Organization committee member. “It is really fun to watch people react to the prizes they win, especially when they win a big one.”

Donors pay $5 for the chance to select a magnet from the Iowa Speedway pace car, which will be parked on N. Second Ave. W. before and after the Newton High School Homecoming Parade. Each magnet is coded to a prize package. Each prize package has a value of $5 or greater.

Proceeds from the event will support Newton Main Street’s downtown revitalization projects.

“Donors get awesome prizes. Prize packages show off what area businesses have to offer and help businesses develop clientele. Donations fund Main Street projects,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Craig Light said. “It’s a win-win-win for everybody.”
