PCM gets back on track with win over Gilbert

GILBERT — Sophomore Jayci Vos had three hits, two runs and two RBIs at the plate and senior Rachel Freland allowed just four hits and struck out seven in the circle as the Mustangs got back on the winning track on the road Friday, defeating Gilbert 10-3.

The Mustangs, who improved to 5-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference play, also got two hits apiece from sophomores Abby Waddell and Kayla Jennings and senior Molly Vignovich.

Saydel 2, CMB 0

DES MOINES — The Raiders had their five-game win streak snapped by the Eagles on Friday.

Saydel scored both of its unearned runs in the sixth inning.

CMB’s only two hits came from Veronica Condon and Katie Camp. Abbey Kahler took the loss in the circle despite only giving up one hit and striking out nine.

CMB travels to Gilbert for a varsity doubleheader on Monday. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.

PCM finishes 2-1 at

E-B-F Tournament

EDDYVILLE — The Mustangs opened the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tournament with a pair of wins over Danville and Sigourney, and then ended the day with a four-inning loss to Class 2A No. 4 and host E-B-F.

PCM defeated Danville 13-3 in six innings in the opener Saturday and then jumped out to a 6-0 lead against Sigourney (13-5) before winning 6-1.

Against the Rockets, the defending 2A runner-up, the Mustangs trailed 3-0 after one, 7-0 after two and 11-0 after three before allowing the game-ending run in the fourth.

PCM is 10-6 on the year and will host 3A No. 3 Greene County at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Tigerhawks go 1-3 at

ADM Tournament

ADEL ­— Colfax-Mingo’s offense broke out for 13 runs in a win over Roland-Story on Friday, but the Tigerhawks only scored two runs total in their other three games over the weekend and went 1-3 at the ADM of Adel Tournament.

The Tigerhawks split two games on Friday, beating the Norse 13-4 and losing to Van Meter 12-2. On Saturday, Colfax-Mingo fell 4-0 to the host Tigers and was beaten 10-0 by Ballard. The Tigerhawks are 3-13 on the season.

In the win over Roland-Story, Colfax-Mingo plated seven runs in its first at-bat and never looked back. The Norse out-hit the Tigerhawks 10-8 but Ries Wilson worked her way around traffic to get the complete-game win after allowing just one earned run.

At the plate, Wilson and Alivia Haley each had two hits and Colbee Cunningham had one hit but drove in five runs. Amy Russell walked twice and scored three runs. Erin Earles, Mackensie Brown and Delaney Underwood all had two RBIs, while Brooke Nicholson and Rhiannon Haley each walked three times.

Rhiannon Haley had two hits to lead the offense in the loss to Van Meter. Colfax-Mingo only collected four hits in the game though. The other two came from Cunningham and Nicholson. Wilson walked twice, too.

Cunningham took the loss in the circle. The eighth-grader allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs. The Tigerhawks were out-hit 11-4 and committed four errors.

On Saturday, the Tigerhawks committed six errors and had four total hits in two losses to ADM and Ballard.

Against Class 4A No. 5 ADM, Wilson and Russell each had a hit and Russell took the loss in the circle.

Kate Collins homered to lead the Tigers (12-2) at the plate and Molly Jacobsen allowed the two hits and fanned 13 in the circle to earn the win.

Against Ballard, Russell and Earles each had a hit and Alivia and Rhiannon Haley both walked once. Wilson took the loss. She allowed 14 hits and five earned runs.

Colfax-Mingo hosts Nevada in a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The first game is a makeup contest from earlier this season.
