Claudia I. Stevens

Claudia I. Stevens, 93, of Newton, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or Skiff Hospice may be left at the funeral home.

Claudia, the daughter of James and Maggie (Kidd) Winton, was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Manchester, Tenn. She graduated from Central High School in Manchester. After moving to Newton, Claudia was united in marriage with Elmer Stevens Aug. 27, 1945, in Rock Island, Ill. Claudia worked in assembly for The Maytag Company for 34 years, retiring in 1981. She enjoyed playing Bingo, gardening, fishing and crocheting.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Dennis Stevens of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ed (Kathy) Stevens of Killduff; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; a sister; and three brothers.
