C-M’s Maggard advances, Raiders’ season ends

GRUNDY CENTER — Colfax-Mingo senior Olivia Maggard was the only Tigerhawk golfer roaming the links at Town and Country Golf Club May 18 during a Class 1A Region 3A first round tournament.

But after finishing in the top five of the individual race, she extended her season to next week.

Maggard carded a 101 in fifth place and will play in the regional final at Marengo Golf Club May 26. She was the only player not on Grundy Center’s team to advance.

The host and two-time defending state champion Spartans rolled to the team title with a 374. Josie McMartin was the medalist with an 85, but Grundy Center also captured the next three positions — Maddy Grineski (93), Sarah Hockmeyer (97) and Kate Ross (99).

Only three teams in attendance had rosters large enough to boast a team score. Belle Plaine shot a 456 to advance to the regional final and North Tama carded a 500.

CMB-CN was led by Abbi Ericson’s 123. Courtney Clapper finished with a 128 and Zoee Risdal shot a 156.

Katie Jenkins of Gilbert won medalist honors with a 92, edging Nevada’s Claire Ausman and Bondurant-Farrar’s Amy Stock by a single stroke.

Centerville and Nevada advanced as full teams. The Big Red won the meet with a 401 and the Cubs were runner-up at 421.
