Lynnville-Sully girls win first-ever district track meet title

BROOKLYN — Lynnville-Sully’s girls made school history Thursday contending with tough competition and tough weather conditions. The Hawk girls claimed a girls’ district track meet team championship for the first time in the school’s history.

They also qualified in seven events for Class 1A competition at the 2015 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships. Lynnville-Sully’s girls piled up 126 points in winning the Class 1A state qualifying meet hosted by BGM, which was second with 113 points.

Lynnville-Sully’s boys qualified in three events for the 1A state meet. Sage Ehresman won the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 10 inches. He also qualified in the 100-meter dash, finishing second in 11.32 seconds.

The Hawk 4x100-meter relay team, which took third at the district meet in 46.08 seconds, advanced to the state meet. Ehresman combined with Caden Dunsbergen, Noah Engle and Noah Zylstra in the event.

Lynnville-Sully’s girls won one relay race at the district meet, qualifying automatically. The foursome of Kasiah Ehresman, Madison Rasmusson, Makenzy Rozendaal and Brenna Lanser posted a winning time of 1:51.47 in the 4x200.

The same four took second in the 4x100 in 53.48, and second in the sprint medley relay in 1:58.79. Both times were fast enough to earn at-large bids to the state.

Three Hawk girls were automatic qualifiers by winning individual events at the district meet. Marissa Vos won the 3,000-meter run in 12:24.07. Shelby Davis had a first-place throw of 34-9 in the shot put and Lizzy Van Manen won the discus with a toss of 94-4.
