The former Monroe Clinic building was sold by Skiff Medical Center after a public hearing was held by the Skiff Board of Trustees at a special meeting Wednesday.
Cameron Hindley was approved to purchase the property, 206 E. Marion St., for $47,000 and plans to start a chiropractic clinic.
“It’s a facility that we just no longer have a use for. We are glad that somebody else can put it to good use,” Skiff CEO Brett Altman said.
Unoccupied for the past two years, the building was most recently used by NewCare Health Services of Newton. Hindley intends to start a general wellness and chiropractic clinic and could potentially offer additional services as the practice grows.
“There are a number of reasons I decided to purchase the clinic building in Monroe. Just to name a few: it is a building well suited to fit the needs of my future plans, it is in a smaller community which is the environment I most enjoy and feel very comfortable living/working in and it is in a great location,” Hindley said.
He is set to officially close on the purchase at the end of April and if preparations go smoothly, it is possible the clinic could open as early as June.
Hindley is a Centerville native who received his bachelor’s degree in integrative physiology from the University of Iowa before earning his doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport. Following graduation, Hindley said he had the privilege of working as an intern at the Lemoore Navel Air Base in Lemoore, Calif. While there, he worked as part of an integrated team of health officials including medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapist, orthopedic surgeons, physicians assistants and nurses.
“Needless to say it was a life changing experience to work with such a well rounded team and an honor to help and give back to the active duty men and women soldiers,” Hindley said.
After moving back to Iowa, he spent time working with his siblings in their clinics in State Center and Conrad. Now he is ready to start his own practice in Monroe.
“I have many memories of playing the PCM Mustangs in various high school sports. Monroe and the surrounding communities have many features that help me feel right at home. I am certainly glad that I have the opportunity to work in the area,” Hindley said.
