Boomerangs; we keep you coming back.
Prior to opening and being fully financed, most businesses aren’t as prepared in having their name and slogan ready. Then again, as long as Dana Simbro has been working on Boomerangs, she’s preparing for anything.
“I’ve been working on it for three years, trying to bring a family entertainment center to Newton and mainly because I’m a stay at home mom and I’m tired of driving to other locations entertain my kids,” Simbro said. “We should really have one of these in Newton.”
Simbro’s plan for the business to offer Newton families a business they don’t currently have. A fun and safe environment where their children are free to be kids. Aside from serving her customers, Simbro sees this as an opportunity to give back to Newton.
“I really want to help the animal rescue league, the food pantry..all of these things that are constantly asking for money,”
Simbro is currently scouting for locations for Boomerangs and said she just talked to a bank about financing.
“This project is obtainable,” Simbro said. “I am working on investors.”
Boomerangs, when it opens, will have an arcade, laser tag, bumper cars and inflatables. These are just a few of the things Simbro plans to offer on opening day.
“We have grandmother’s who have grandchildren that stay the weekend and there’s all sorts of ages involved there,” She said. “We have parents who have teenagers and 2-year-olds. We need a place with a wide range of options.”
Still early in the investment stage, Simbro doesn’t have an opening day set. Three years ago, she said she was driving her children to Ankeny for such entertainment and hopes soon that other parents won’t have to resort to such measures.
“I just thought it was silly,” she said. “There’s no reason we can’t do this in Newton.”
Simbro said her background is varied, she worked for attorneys for years and said her father was an entrepreneur so she’s used to think outside the box and trying something new.
“So, I’m not scared of the legal issues involved,” Simbro said. “This is also a business that a woman would think about more than a man because they’re the ones that usually take their kids out to do things like this.”
