To the editor:
Sorry to say but I’m not seeing the federal government shut down as a totally bad thing.
Yes, it’s causing some 800,000 to possibly not get a pay check. No one likes to see that, but I’d like to think we all would like to see the House of Representatives, the Senate, the President and Vice President not receive their paychecks too. Correct?
I personally don’t see that they have earned it. Not one penny. Yet they continue to get their paychecks, benefits and possibly some bribe money channeled through various lobbyists while the remaining government employees get furloughed.
We continue to fail to realize we are their boss and we have the authority to fire them. We can do that through our privilege of voting. End their term by voting them out and vote someone else in.
Presently we have no one in office — Republican or Democrat — worthy of our continued votes and trust as they have let us down repeatedly. It’s sad, but how did we elect such a polluted pool of pathetic politicians?
Experts are estimating this down time will cost the tax payers 12.5 million dollars an hour. It’s certainly less than what the government/politicians spend with no shut down which is well over 435 million dollars an hour.
Sounds like a no brainer solution: Less government needed. To top off this frivolous spending, about 46 cents to every dollar spent is borrowed. Of the 435 million per hour spent, about 190 million dollars is borrowed money, putting us deeper in debt.
And you know borrowed money isn’t free. So some country, most likely China, is reaping in those interest payments like a bad credit card. This is ludicrous and pure suicide. Continuing in this manner will be the death of this country.
Think of it as cancer and spreading across the nation causing a very slow and miserable death. There is a treatment and cure though. Reduce spending and get on a budget that will get us out of debt.
But instead, this nation is going on an ObamaDoesn’tCare plan and the outlook is very bleak. A shutdown is necessary, as one group still wants to spend more money, putting us more in debt.
Yet another group is trying to restrict this spending. Which group has your interests representing you? And why would you want to continue to go more in debt?
We are reminded of everything that the government controls during a shutdown. It should be an eye opener on all the unneeded and needed services and call for a reform and reorganization, weeding it out, keeping the best and forgetting the rest.
A shutdown should not affect us much, but it does today more than ever because unfortunately too many are dependents of the federal government for various reasons, some necessary while most are not. If we had less federal government, perhaps we would have less inconvenience when these lawmakers and lawbreakers shut down.
If we don’t like these inconveniences we should be looking for ways to be independent of its grip. The federal government gets bigger every day, solicits its misrepresentations and takes more of our freedoms away unnoticed by those too busy taking their life and pursuit of happiness for granted.
If you don’t like this federal government shutdown, then vote differently next time. In with the new and out with the old and hold these politicians accountable. Henry Ford once said: “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”
Think about it.
