The Newton girls track team finished in fourth place in Class AA at the Tulip Time meet in Pella on Thursday. Here are some notable finishers:
Sydney Jenkins finished in second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.72 seconds. Jenkins also won the 400 with a time of 1:00.50. Amber Karsten competed in the 200 as well, finishing fourth with a time of 28.10. Karsten, along with Kacy Cazett, Taylor Fisher and Leela Spencer finished fourth as a team in the 4x100 with a time of 53.10. Bailey Zaruba finished in a tie for fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles, timing at 17.90. Anna Barr finished third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.80. The 4x800 team consisting of Kaelee Knoll, Hailey Coy, Stephanie Hoebelheinrich and Brooklyn Maddison finished second with a time of 11:02.90.
In the field events, shot putters Michaela Bleeker and Madison Bagnall finished first and second, respectively. Bleeker won the event with a throw of 34 feet, five inches, less than a foot ahead of Bagnall’s throw of 33-9. With discus thrower Sarah Kalkhoff at Drake, Bleeker finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 96-10.
The team’s next meet for the Cardinals is scheduled for Monday at Oskaloosa.
