Kathrein Rocena Holkan, 68, of Kellogg passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service for Kathrein will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. Pastor John Moore, Our Savior Lutheran Church, will conduct the services. Memorials are being designated in Kathrein’s name and may be left at the funeral home.
Kathrein, the daughter of William Eugene and Opal Edna (Flood) Reeley, was born July 28, 1943, in Covina, Calif. She was a graduate of the Azusa High School in California, Class of 1961.
On Aug. 28, 1980, Kathrein was united in marriage with Jerold “Jerry” Howard Holkan at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton. A resident of the Kellogg area, since 1963, she had devoted her life to her family and friends. She was employed by Maytag, 27 years in the Assembly Department until July 2003. She also worked for the Newton Daily News, 4.5 years, retiring in 2011. Kathrein was a kind and warm hearted lady, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the Iowa State Fair, for the American Cancer Society, reading, gardening and was a Do It Yourselfer.
Kathrein was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Vern Small.
Those left to honor Kathrein’s memory include her husband, Jerry; her children, Kathy A. Rudkin of Newton, Kristy Miller (Terry Coady) of Newton, Kenny W. Miller of Tipton, Mike Helton (Kathy Eler) of Kellogg, Jeff Helton of Webster City and Chris Holkan of Altoona; her 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Gene (Jackie) Reeley of Las Vegas, Nev., George (Marian) Reeley of LaVern, Calif., Marlene Small of Omaha, Neb., Bill Reeley of Willow, Calif., Marie (Rick) Doty of Santa Anna, Calif., and Joe (Mary) Reeley of Carson City, Nev.; and her many friends.
