Curtis Peterson

Curtis A. Peterson, 42, of Newton died on Monday, May 14, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the funeral home. Memorials in Curtis’s name or to the John Stoddard Cancer Center may be left at the funeral home.

Curtis, the son of Russell and Carolyn (Dow) Peterson, was born on March 11, 1970, in Des Moines. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1988 and worked at Midwest Manufacturing for 21 years. Curt was married to Susan Stier on Aug. 5, 1995 in Grinnell. Together they had a daughter, Ryan. Curt later spent 13 years with Shelly Lolwing, and they became husband and wife on March 4, 2010. They were blessed with a son, Benjamin. Curt was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, a good laugh and hanging out with family and friends. Curt had a special bond with his two children.

Those left to honor Curt’s memory are his wife, Shelly Peterson; daughter, Ryan Peterson; son, Benjamin Peterson; his father, Russell Peterson; brother, Duane (Amy) Peterson; sister, Ranee (Randy Schiller) Dowdy; and three nephews, Alec Dowdy, Michael Peterson and Matthew Peterson, all of Newton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Peterson.
