Golden Agers Club
The Golden Agers Club met on Tuesday, March 20. President Bonnie Swalwell Eilert, leader of this group for 15 years, announced to the members the new president, Karman Vanderleest, who led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Swalwell Eilert will continue on as secretary-treasurer and keeper of memorial book, held by her for many years. Margaret Bailey was elected once again as “queen.”
It was called to our attention that the Salvation Army doors had been locked, leaving us and the group who came to decorate and bring food standing outside. President Vanderleest discussed this problem. Swalwell Eilert made the motion that after all these many years, to change our meeting time from 1 to 1:15 p.m. Margaret Bailey seconded the motion.
There were no members to celebrate a birthday this month.
Queen Margaret Bailey read a poem and told many jokes, and read the story, “The Gown With the Split Down the Back.” Swalwell Eilert read a quiz.
Our entertainment consisted of Eva Miller singing and playing guitar.
SFlbChapter K-EN T.T.T.
The regular meeting of K-EN T.T.T. was at the home of Barb Taylor on Tuesday.
President Jane Repp called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Fourteen members were present. Minutes were read, and treasurer’s and committee reports were given.
Plans were made for serving drinks at the upcoming Jasper County Concert Series event. The four camp girls for the summer have been selected, and the needed paperwork is being filled out. Shopping for their camp needs will be planned soon. They will attend the July meeting before leaving for camp on Aug. 5.
The next meeting will be for dinner so the menu was planned. An update was read from the national office regarding the use of T.T.T. money. As the legalities with new tax laws are worked out, chapters will be informed. Ruth Cleverly handed out copies of the updated bylaws. State convention is April 20 and 21, and two of our former members will be memorialized.
A program followed given by Kay and Gary Parsons following their recent trip to Tanzania, Africa. Refreshments were served by Shirley Birkenholz.
Kellogg Garden Club
The Kellogg Garden Club recently met, with Carolyn Barr presenting a program on recycling.
Members planned the 2012 High Tea, set for 1:30 p.m. May 5. Tickets are $10. Denny Slings, retired Newton Parks and Recreation director, will speak about trees during the event.
The club is planning a garage sale May 19 at Maytag Park.
