Luella Irene Bragg, a resident of McCann Village in Newton, Iowa, died on Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at the Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Dustin Black of the Newton Foursquare Church officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.
Friends may call at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton starting at 9:00 a.m. Friday. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials in Luella’s name may be left at the funeral home.
Luella, the daughter of Lewis Henry and Grace Irene (Walker) Dammeier, was born Aug. 24, 1946, at Metz, Iowa, in a remote area called Healy’s Bottom. She attended Newton schools. She worked in food service at area nursing homes.
Luella was a homemaker and devoted her time to her children, grandchildren and family. She was a great cook and loved inviting people in to share meals with her. She also enjoyed doing crafts. Luella was a member of the Newton Foursquare Church for many years.
Those left to honor Luella’s memory are the father of her children, George Bragg; her four sons, Nick (Renee) Bragg of Altoona, Tony (Mary) Bragg of Pleasant Hill, Carl (Dawn) Bragg and Daniel (Craig) Bragg both of Newton; nine grandchildren, Ashlie, Breanna, Samantha, Cameron, Kristina, Thiesa, Carl III “Bubba”, Kaitlin, Page and Samuel; one great-granddaughter, Taryn; an almost daughter, Denise Sedlock, and her sons, Jarrin and Jarod; her brother, Murry (Diane) Dammeier of Newton; her four sisters, Merita Dammeier, Arlene Boyer, Roma Mosher all of Newton, Marceda (Larry) Romick of Monroe; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents, her special friend, Sam Smothers; one brother, Derald (Darlene) Dammeier; two sisters, Vera (Keith) Boles and Hilma McKinney; brothers-in-law, Ray Boyer, Dick Mosher; nieces and nephews, Linda Borchert, Tammy and Zac VanWyk and Randy Dammeier and the God-parents of her sons, Guy and Florence Wilson.
