Frank A. York, 92, of Newton, died on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at the Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, 1115 E. 19th St. N. in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

Frank A. York, the son of Sherman and Pearl (Edmunson) York, was born on Sept. 24, 1919, in Perry, Iowa. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1937. On Nov. 5, 1939, Frank was united in marriage with G. Bernice “Bea” Kleinendorst in Bethany, Mo. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from June of 1944 until April of 1946. He participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands and the Occupation Of Japan. Following World War II, Frank returned to Newton where he worked many years for the Maytag Company in the tool and die department, where he was a supervisor when he retired in 1985.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie (Ted) Bisom of Rock Island, Ill.; his son, Gary (Carol) York of Newton; six grandchildren, Michael Dale (Rachel) Bisom, Justin L. York, Lisa Michelle Bisom, Matthew John (Faith) York, Eric Raymond York, and Jennifer Tacker; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Bisom, Penelope York and Elliot York; and his two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bea in 2010; two brothers, Howard and Keith York.
