Newton Police Department
• Nathan M. Beintema, 27, of Kellogg was arrested at the Jasper County Adult Probation Office at 9:03 a.m. April 21 on a warrant for a parole violation. His original charge was child endangerment. Beintema was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Stephen M. Elliott, 22, of Newton was cited with driving while license suspended at 2:05 a.m. Friday. Newton police stopped Elliott’s vehicle in the 2000 block of First Avenue East for operating without license plates. He was released to appear in court.
• Melissa J. Huffaker, 42, of Newton was arrested on a warrant at 3:39 p.m. April 21 for violation of probation. Newton police located her at a residence at 608 S. Second Ave. W. Huffaker was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jennifer S. Storjohann, 30, of Colfax was arrested after her vehicle was stopped at 1:02 a.m. April 20, and Newton police found her to have an outstanding warrant for a probation violation. Storjohann was pulled over by officers in the 800 block of South Eighth Avenue West for a traffic violation before the warrant issued out of Polk County was served. Her original charge was failure to appear for a show cause hearing. Storjohann was also cited for driving while license suspended in the incident. Officers transported her to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jeffery L. Stewart, 27, of Newton was arrested for two outstanding warrants Monday when officials at the Polk County Jail notified the Newton Police Department of his incarceration at that facility. Stewart was transported to the Jasper County Jail at 11:45 a.m. for a warrant for a probation violation and another issued in Clinton for failure to appear in court regarding an operating while intoxicated charge. Stewart was also charged with operating a vehicle without owner’s consent during the arrest for an incident which occurred April 4.
• Jessica F. Wooster, 23, of Newton was cited for driving while license suspended at 12:47 a.m. Sunday. Newton police stopped Wooster’s vehicle in the 100 block of Iowa Speedway Drive after she allegedly drove through a stop sign. She was released to appear in court.
• A Newton woman was taken to Skiff Medical Center on Saturday after a medical issue caused her to lose control of her vehicle, veer off road and run through seven residential properties before hitting a fire hydrant. 49-year-old Kimberly S. Spearing was traveling westbound in the 1100 block of North Fourth Avenue East when the incident occurred. According to police reports, no charges were filed during the single-vehicle accident, but there was $3,000 in damage done to Spearing’s vehicle, $500 in damage to the fire hydrant and $100 in damage to each lawn driven through. No injuries were reported during the crash.
• A 9-year-old student at Thomas Jefferson elementary allegedly attacked several teachers and upset property at the school April 20 which resulted in several charges for the juvenile. Newton police were called to the school at 11:56 a.m. after the female subject had allegedly yelled obscenities in the school lunchroom, struck, kicked and spat on teachers as well as over-turned desks and ripped posters from classroom walls. During the struggle, the student also allegedly bit two teachers. She was charged with three counts of simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct. The student was released into the custody of juvenile authorities.
SFlbPrairie City Police Department
• Erika L. Brees, 22, of Prairie City was charged with allowing an animal to run at large at 6:15 p.m. April 11. Prairie City police had been receiving reports of Brees’ dog running loose earlier this month and issued a warning to her on April 3. Brees was released to appear in court.
• Travis J. Lahvic, 19, of Knoxville was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop at 6:50 p.m. April 21. After being pulled over, Prairie City police report that Lahvic was found to have a marijuana smoking pipe. He was released to appear in court.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
