Fred N. Smith

Fred N. Smith, 52, of Newton died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home in rural Newton.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. A visitation will follow the service. Memorials may be left in Fred’s name.

The son of William and Arless (Dow) Smith, Fred was born April 14, 1958, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School. On May 24, 2002, he was united in marriage with Shawna Griffith in Newton.

Fred had worked at Midwest Manufacturing for 29 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member and deacon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Shawna Smith of Newton; three sons, Shawn Stevens of Newton and Christian and LJae Smith of Newton; three grandchildren, Hannah, Mallory and Braedyn Stevens; his mother, Arless Smith of Newton; and his brother, Sid Smith of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
