Newton Little League All Stars advance

With a 3-1 win over Mahaska National in New Sharon on Tuesday night, the Newton Little League All Stars moved to 6-0, capturing the top seed in the District 4 North Division Pool.

Newton closes out pool play with a home game Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Agnes Patterson vs BGM. Newton also will play at home at 6 p.m. Saturday vs the second-seeded team from the South Division Pool. The winner of that game will advance to the District 4 Championship Game on Monday (site undetermined).

Newton has combined strong pitching, giving up only 12 runs in six games, with timely hitting in scoring 57 runs during tournament play. The public is encouraged to come out and cheer for the Newton 11- and 12-year-old team on Wednesday and Saturday.

Team members include Joseph Banfield, Jake Bennett, Derek Damman, Connor Gholson, Cody Kellogg, Duncan Lee, Cooper McDermott, Kincaid Mitchell, Jwan Roush, Drew Stout and Bryce Tish. Coaches are Tom Vanderlaan and Heath Kellogg.
