Actress Emily Rose finds ‘Haven’ in new Syfy series

(MCT) PASADENA, Calif. — With Friday’s premiere of the new series “Haven,” actress Emily Rose joins a club of gun-toting ladies on TV.

Like Yvonne Strahovski from “Chuck,” Anna Torv in “Fringe” and Joanne Kelly in “Warehouse 13,” Rose is a relatively unknown actress taking on the role of a smart, sexy and sometimes funny government agent in a TV series.

She plays FBI agent Audrey Parker in Syfy’s supernatural series “Haven.” She is sent to the creepy town of Haven, Maine, to catch a fugitive and elects to stay because of all the strange activity. The series is based on Stephen King’s “The Colorado Kid.”

“Haven” is being shot in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where the population is just over 2,000.

“When you shoot in a small town, everybody knows everybody’s business. And the people have just been so sweet and giving,” Rose says. “It’s also great because going to work there is what Audrey is feeling when she shows up in this small town. It really helps me play the part.”

Rose says the hardest part of the role is making sure she comes across like an FBI agent. She worked with the stunt team, spent hours reading and called on her video-game background (she plays the heroine Elena in the “Uncharted” adventure game series).

Rose, a Washington native, has appeared in small TV roles such as “John from Cincinnati” and “Jericho.” She is the star of “Haven.”

She says the real difference between being the star vs. a supporting player is the amount of work. That, and being asked a lot more questions, including if Emily Rose is her real name or one taken from the 2005 film “The Exorcism of Emily Rose.”

TV’s latest government agent says it’s her real name.
