Newton Police

Department

• Jacob J. Etter, 18, of Newton was charged with simple assault at 10:29 p.m. Thursday at 716 N. Eighth Ave. E. The report states a 15-year-old female told police she and Etter got into an argument, and Etter punched her in the stomach twice and in the head. Police said Etter admitted to punching the victim. He was released to appear in court.

• Richard L. Grimes, 41, of Grinnell was charged with 33 counts of harassment at approximately 8:40 p.m. Friday after being arrested in rural Jasper County. The report states Grimes placed phone calls and text messages to a 36-year-old female from Reasnor. The charges for the calls and messages, which took place between 6:32 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. Friday, include seven counts of first-degree harassment, two counts of second-degree harassment and 24 counts of third-degree harassment. The victim is Grimes’ ex-wife, police said. Grimes was placed into custody and transported to jail.

• Amber D. Rogers, 24, of Newton was charged with third-degree criminal mischief at 2:12 a.m. Thursday at 709 E. Ninth St. S. The report states witnesses saw Rogers drive her van into a truck belonging to Ronald Heimstra, 45, of Newton. Rogers later admitted striking the truck with her vehicle because she was angry with Jacob Heimstra, who typically drives the vehicle, police said. The front quarter panel on the passenger side of Heimstra’s vehicle had between $500 and $1,000 damage, while Rogers’ vehicle had $100 damage. Rogers also was cited for driving while license suspended, reckless driving and no insurance. She was released to appear in court.

• Rodger L. Vonk, 51, of Baxter and Marcus A. Gifford, 25, of Newton were both charged with disorderly conduct at 6:54 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of South Second Avenue West. The report states police received a call about an altercation involving baseball bats. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Vonk and Gifford as well as a baseball bat. Both men were released to appear in court.

Prairie City Police

Department

• Nicholas M. Lobberecht, 18, of Oskaloosa was cited with possession of alcohol while underage after Prairie City police stopped his vehicle at 2:27 a.m. June 13. Lobberecht allegedly had a bottle of vodka with him, and he was charged and released.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
