Memorial services for Lois Jane Oelke of Newton were today, Monday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Lois, the daughter of Hurvey and Jane Egland, was born Feb. 5, 1944, in LaCrosse, Wis. She graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. with a bachelors in business economics and business education.
Lois was confirmed in her faith in her home church, The Evangelical Free Church in Houston, Minn., and was later immersed in baptism in the First Baptist Church, in Norway, Mich., by her husband, the Rev. Douglas Oelke. Along with her husband, she served nine congregations during forty-plus years of Christian service.
Lois’ greatest joy was her family. Doug and Lois were married June 9, 1962, and were blessed with four children, Amy (Richard) Mally of Cedar Rapids, Roxanne (Robert) Schlatter of Sullivan, Ind., Sarah (Andrew McGill) of Fort Dodge and Mark (Cherilynn) of Rush City, Minn. They were also blessed with ten grand-children, Anna, Joe and Rachel Mally, Nicholas, Christopher and Allison Schlatter, Zachary, Jacob and Megan McGill and Abby Oelke.
Lois is also survived by her mother, Jane Egland; her sister, Bernice (Jerry) Nau; and brother, Dale Egland.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, Hurvey Egland.
