Dick De Haai

MONROE — Dick F. De Haai, 86 of Monroe, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at Park Centre of Newton. Funeral services for Mr. De Haai will be on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Monroe First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. De Haai will be on Friday, Feb. 6, at Monroe First Baptist Church from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Monroe Recreation Complex and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. The son of Edd and Jennie (Hamilton) De Haai, Dick was born on March 20, 1922, in Rural Marion County. Dick attended the Oak Ridge Country School. On Dec. 25, 1941, Dick was united in marriage with Helen Marie Shaffer at the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. Dick farmed land and raised cattle in the Monroe area for 64 years until his retirement. Dick also enjoyed traveling and bluegrass music. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and also a part of the Monroe First Baptist Church family. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Helen De Haai; son, Jack (Sharon) De Haai of Monroe; three daughters, Julia (Tom) Gullion of Hamilton, Barbara De Haai of Pleasant Hill and Marie (Guy) Anderson of Scottsbluff, Neb.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lavern De Haai of Pleasantville and Kermit De Haai of Monroe. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Jeanette and Eva.*
