Lynnville-Sully softball wins, baseball loses against Belle Plaine

SULLY — The Class 1A fourth-ranked Lynnville-Sully softball team only needed five innings to claim its 10th victory in South Iowa Cedar League competition on Monday. The Hawks decked Belle Plaine 10-0 in a run-ruled shortened game.

On the baseball diamond, Lynnville-Sully’s Hawk rallied to tie Belle Plaine 3-3 through five innings but the visitors tallied two runs in the sixth to hold on to defeat the Hawks 5-3. The Hawk baseball team fell to 7-7 overall and 7-3 in SICL play.

Lynnville-Sully’s teams host the BCLUW teams Tuesday in non-conference play, starting at 5:30 p.m. The Hawk squads are at Tri-County for 6 p.m. SICL games on Wednesday to wrap up conference action.

Softball

The Hawks are atop the SICL standings at 10-0 after Monday’s win. They are 13-1 overall.

They scored four runs in the first inning and had a five-run fourth. The Hawks got one run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by run rule.

Denali Conover held Belle Plaine to four hits. She walked one batter and struck out five for the pitching victory. She also had two RBIs at the the plate.

Laci Keen hit two double and drove in a run for the hawks. Caitlin Alberts had a single and a double and two RBIs. Korinne Jansen hit two singles, drove in a run and had a stolen base. Kaleah Ehresman had two base hits and a stolen base.

Cayler Noun Harder doubled and had two RBIS and Mallory Loftus singled and had two RBIs. Aliya James singled. Reagan McFarland had three stolen bases.

Baseball

Belle Plaine struck for three runs in the first inning. Lynnville-Sully plated a run in the third and tied the game 3-all with two runs in the fifth. The Hawks couldn’t answer Belle Plaine’s two runs in the sixth and lost.

Blaize Kuhlmann worked 5 2/3 innings as the Hawk starting pitcher. He allowed four runs on two hits, five walks and a hit batter. Kuhlmann struck out 10 batters.

Bray Noun Harder got the final out in the six in relief but gave up one run on one hit and two walks. Payton Van Wyk cam on to pitch the seventh and allowed one hit and walked one but gave no runs.

Bray Noun Harder connected for two singles and had a stolen base. Corder Noun Harder singled and had two stolen bases and Conner Maston singled and had one stolen base. Hitting a single each were Owen Norrish, Slater Young and Blake Rea.

The Hawks stand in second place in the SICL.
