Cyclone women’s rally falls short in road loss to K-State

MANHATTAN, Kansas — Ashley Joens had a double-double, but Iowa State’s women’s basketball team fell behind Kansas State early and never recovered during a 60-51 loss at Bramlage Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Joens finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds and three steals, but Iowa State only had five assists as a team and made only 7-of-29 from 3-point range in the Big 12 Conference loss.

The Cyclones dropped to 15-11 overall and 7-8 in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas State improved to 14-12 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

K-State led 13-11 after one but led 25-17 at halftime. The Wildcats pushed their lead to 13 after three quarters and went on to win by nine.

The Cyclones closed to within five points with 4:58 to play in the game, but Kansas State then answered with a 7-0 run to pull away for good. It was the third straight loss for Iowa State.

Rae Johnson had 10 points and two assists for Iowa State, while Ines Nezerwa tallied eight points, four rebounds and two steals.

Three players scored 11 points for Kansas State — Angela Harris, Peyton Williams and Ayoka Lee. Lee had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Wildcats made 23-of-52 from the floor and had a 30-20 advantage in points in the paint.
