Newton Police Department

• Mary L. Hood, 46, of Newton was charged with operating while under the influence 3:42 p.m. Feb. 18 in the 900 block of East 16th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, Hood backed into another vehicle while backing out of her driveway. Hood admitted to consuming alcohol and had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Hood failed field sobriety tests and submitted to a preliminary breath test that resulted in a BAC of more than .08. At the NPD, Hood gave a breath specimen which resulted in a BAC of .126. Hood was cited and released.

• Christopher J. Pollard, 29, was charged with eluding and operating while under the influence at 8:09 p.m. Feb. 19. According to the Newton Police Department, officers attempted to stop a green Buick Skylark with no plates after observing the vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers activated their sirens and the vehicle continued to turn down side streets until pulling into an apartment parking lot where Pollard was taken into custody. While officers were taking Pollard into custody they immediately noticed the strong odor of marijuana on his person. Pollard was also issues citations for failing to obey a stop sign, failure to provide proof of financial liability and operation without registration. Pollard was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Dustin V. Smith, 23, of Newton was charged with driving while barred at 1:06 a.m. Feb. 18 in the 2400 block of North Fifth Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were on an active patrol when they noticed Smith driving. Smith got away from officers for a brief period of time. Officers then ran Smith through Jasper County Dispatch and dispatch told officers Smith was barred. Officers located and stopped the vehicle and asked Smith for his ID. Smith admitted to driving and stated that he had a set up a payment plan for his license. Smith was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
