MONROE — Gatlin Boell scored a career-high 22 points, three Mustangs hit double figures and Prairie City-Monroe’s boys basketball team defeated South Hamilton 67-54 during Heart of Iowa Conference action on Friday night.
PCM led 13-11 after one quarter but outscored the Hawks 16-2 in the second. South Hamilton won the second half 41-38.
Boell scored 22 points on five 3-pointers and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Jason Stafford tallied 18 points, three rebounds and two assists and Derek Brown added 15 points and eight rebounds. Andrew Mitchell scored nine points and dished out three assists.
The Mustangs (9-5 overall, 6-3 in conference play) had a 14-point advantage at the foul line. They were 19-of-24, while South Hamilton (7-4, 6-2) was 5-of-10.
PCM hosts Greene County for a boy-girl varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.

MONROE — Regan Freland had 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and eight steals and Kate McCarthy added eight points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block during a 38-32 home win over South Hamilton on Friday night
The Mustangs trailed 21-18 at halftime but outscored the Hawks (5-7, 3-5) 13-4 in the third quarter to take control of the Heart of Iowa Conference game.
“We had a lot more energy in the second half,” PCM coach Jeff Lindsay said. “That was the turning point. We did a good job of getting after it.”
Lilli Baird had seven points, Emma George tallied five rebounds and two assists and Riley Hjortshoj grabbed three rebounds.
“Offensively, we showed a lot more patience and poise in the second half,” Lindsay said.
“We were able to get a lot of different girls involved.”
