Berkey scores 33 in Tigerhawks’ win over Spartans

MAXWELL — Brady Berkey scored 33 points, Cole Bracewell buried five 3-pointers and Colfax-Mingo’s boys’ basketball team scored a 73-59 non-conference road victory over Collins-Maxwell on Thursday.

Berkey was 10-of-13 from the floor and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. He also finished with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

The Tigerhawks (6-2) led 21-10 after one quarter, were up 42-23 at halftime and took a 52-37 lead into the final quarter.

Bracewell finished with 17 points, six boards, two assists and two steals and Jacob Nichols added 10 points and six rebounds.

Zach Steenhoek finished with eight points, four assists and four steals. David Rague tallied three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Mason Markley finished with 20 points to lead Collins-Maxwell (4-5).

Colfax-Mingo hosts Sigourney in a girl-boy South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. on Friday.

A slow start plagued Colfax-Mingo’s girls’ basketball team during a 53-37 non-conference loss to Collins-Maxwell on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks (3-6) trailed 25-9 after one quarter and 33-17 at halftime and never recovered.

Collins-Maxwell (9-2) won its fourth straight game.

Carley Underwood scored nine points to lead the Tigerhawks, while Avery Rague and Abi Rawlins each had eight points.
