Baxter girls rout North Tama, GMG

TRAER — Another dominating performance kept Baxter’s girls’ basketball team undefeated in Iowa Star Conference South Division action this season.

The Bolts held North Tama to single digits in every quarter and outscored the Redhawks 19-3 in the third frame during a 56-20 road win on Dec. 6.

Baxter led 28-13 at halftime. The Bolts (2-1 overall, 2-0 in conference play) scored the first 17 points of the second half and pulled away with a big third quarter. North Tama (1-1, 0-1) scored only seven points in the second half.

Senior Caitlyn Bruntz scored 18 points for the second straight conference game and added four steals and three assists. She was 4-of-10 from 3-point range.

Junior McKenzie Eslinger tallied 10 points and five rebounds, senior Holly Jessen scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists and sophomore Lilie Vansice finished with six points, four rebounds and four assists.

Junior Sophie Meyer grabbed six boards, dished out four assists and swiped three steals.

The Bolts had 11 steals in the win and had 21 assists on 22 made field goals.

Baxter hosted Meskwaki Settlement School on Dec. 10. The Bolts face Valley Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 in Cedar Falls.

Baxter 67, GMG 29

BAXTER — Four Bolts scored in double-figures and three set new career-highs as Baxter thumped GMG 67-29 in Iowa Star Conference South Division action on Dec. 3.

Baxter led 29-4 after one quarter and coasted from there.

Bruntz scored a career-high 18 points and added four steals, three rebounds and three assists.

Vansice put in a career-best 14 points and tallied six steals and senior Sadie Meyer finished with a career-high 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists.

Eslinger tallied 12 points, corralled four rebounds, delivered two assists, collected three steals and blocked two shots.

Jessen scored one point but added three rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sophie Meyer had five points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals and junior Brooke Bacon finished with five points and five rebounds.

Baxter made 27-of-60 from the floor, connected on 6-of-15 from downtown and hit 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. The Bolts swiped 28 steals.

Clarksville 61, Baxter 30

CLARKSVILLE — Class 1A No. 7 Clarksville pulled away from Baxter in the second quarter and never looked back during a 61-30 home win over the Bolts on Dec. 7.

The Indians (3-0) led by two after one quarter but outscored the Bolts 14-1 in the second.

Eslinger led the Bolts with eight points, five rebounds and two steals, junior Maddie Pierce tallied seven points and Jessen collected six points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Bruntz put in four points and dished out two assists and Vansice added three points, two assists and two steals.
