C-M volleyball splits two SICL matches

KEOTA — Colfax-Mingo’s volleyball team won its second straight South Iowa Cedar League match on Oct. 7.

The Tigerhawks made the long trek to Keota and came home with a 25-16, 27-25, 25-14 win over the Eagles.

Morgan Van Dyke had a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs and she was 8-of-9 in serving. Kyra Lester tallied 20 assists, four kills, five digs and two aces. Lester was 12-of-12 in serves.

Melany Vry had six kills with a .600 kill efficiency. Caylee Cunningham added five kills and Avery Rague finished with three kills.

Kira Warrick had a team-high 15 digs, Carlee Underwood had nine digs and Shanen Shedenhelm tallied five digs. Underwood was 14-of-15 in serves with five aces and Shedenhelm served 15-of-16 with three aces.

The win improved the Tigerhawks’ record to 5-15 overall and 2-5 in SICL play. Keota dropped to 2-12 overall and 2-6 in conference action.

Iowa Valley 3, Colfax-Mingo 0

COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo lost in straight sets in the final SICL conference match of the season on Oct. 10.

Van Dyke finished with 11 kills and eight digs and Lester added 14 assists and nine digs but the Tigerhawks lost to Iowa Valley 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.

Rague and Chelsey Temple both finished with three kills apiece as Colfax-Mingo (5-16) capped its SICL record at 2-6. Warrick chipped in 11 digs and two assists, Shedenhelm and Underwood both had four digs and Rague tallied three digs.

The Tigerhawks were 50-of-54 in serves. Lester was 11-of-12, Underwood finished 10-of-11, Van Dyke and Rague were both 8-of-8 and Warrick served 8-of-9. Warrick and Lester each had one ace.

Iowa Valley (12-15) improved to 6-2 in conference matches.

Colfax-Mingo played in pool play of the SICL tournament on Oct. 14. The Tigerhawks play Montezuma the SICL Silver Quad tournament on Oct. 17. The quad begins at 5 p.m., and Colfax-Mingo and Montezuma are the second match of the night.
