Slow start dooms C-M football in loss to Blue Devils

MARTENSDALE — Colfax-Mingo dropped its first game of the season on Sept. 6, losing 27-21 on the road to Martensdale-St. Marys.

Jayden Horrach rushed for a career-high 154 yards and added a 13-yard catch, but Colfax-Mingo trailed 21-0 in the first half and couldn’t recover.

Brady Berkley threw a pair of touchdown passes to Trystin Ross and Zach Steenhoek returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown for the Tigerhawks.

Berkey finished with 145 passing yards, 34 rushing yards and a pair of interceptions.

Ross led the Tigerhawks with seven catches for 85 yards and two TDs. He also had a team-high 10.5 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack.

Andrew Meinhart had two catches for 37 yards and 4.5 tackles on defense. Colton Lind tallied 5.5 tackles, Justin Myers collected five tackles and Andres Villegas had 4.5 tackles.

Jack Franey threw for 186 yards and two TDs for the Blue Devils (2-1). Brooks Tram rushed for 109 yards and two scores.

Colfax-Mingo plays in its home opener against Wayne (1-2) at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 in Colfax.
