Newton Police Department
• Michael A. Suiter, 23, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred at 11:25 p.m. Aug. 17 in the 300 block of East Eighth Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers observed a vehicle traveling east in the 500 block of South Fifth Avenue East at a high rate of speed with the passenger taillight out and no plates. Newton police stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of East Eighth Street South and identified the driver as Suiter. Suiter showed a barred status for habitual offender and seven withdraws in effect. Suiter stated right away he didn’t have a license and just purchased the truck in which he had the signed title. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
