Jerry E. Wilfawn, 35, and Tricia B. Faith, 46, of Newton, were charged with third-degree burglary from an incident that occurred at 8:35 p.m. Aug. 10 in the 600 block of North Second Avenue West. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were investigating a report of a burglary at a neighboring apartment when they made contact with Wilfawn and Faith. The two suspects reportedly admitted they entered the victim's apartment and several stolen items were produced by Wilfawn. Wilfawn and Faith consented to a search of their residence in which Newton police found other items of property that belonged to the victim. Both were cited and released to appear in court.

• Stacy L. Lorenzen, 47, of Newton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 11 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 900 block of East 12th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers made contact with Lorenzen and arrested him on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear for a prison sentence on original charge of assault. Lorenzen admitted he had a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine and methamphetamine in his pocket. Newton police searched Lorenzen and found a glass pipe in his left front pants pocket and a clear bag containing a clear rock like substance in his front right pants pocket. He told officers he had used the pipe to smoke methamphetamine approximately two hours earlier and still felt the effects. Newton police observed Lorenzen sweating profusely. Officers tested the substance, weighing 0.7 grams, which tested positive for methamphetamine. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
