Woman threatens deputy after being arrested

COLFAX — A Colfax woman was arrested July 3 after spraying the victim with pepper spray and then threatening violence against the responding deputy.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Kathryn E. Van Horn, 23, was arrested on charges of first degree harassment and domestic abuse. According to the report, the JCSO responded to a call from the victim about a woman, later identified as Van Horn, who was allegedly spraying people with pepper spray at a residence on Fan Avenue in rural Colfax.

The deputy arrived on scene and after reviewing the evidence and collecting information, Van Horn was placed under arrest. The victim requested a no contact order from her.

While Van Horn was being transported to the Jasper County Jail, she began to make threatening remarks by telling the deputy she was going to kill him and all of his family when she gets out of jail, according to the report.

Van Horn then continued to tell the deputy she was going to stab him in the neck with a knife she had “stuck in her butt,” according to the sheriff’s report.

The deputy observed Van Horn moving aggressively in the backseat of the car, moving from her original position behind the passenger seat to behind the driver’s seat, possibly to get closer to the deputy.

The deputy stopped the vehicle and conducted another pat down to ensure his safety and the safety of others who may come in contact with Van Horn at the jail. During the search, the deputy found no weapon on her person.

The deputy called for assistance with Van Horn once they arrived to the jail due to the threats she had made while en route to the jail.

Van Horn posted a $1,000 bond and had her first court appearance on Wednesday.
