BAXTER — Junior Carter Nelsen struck out 13 and allowed a pair of earned runs during a complete-game win over Dunkerton on May 31.
Nelsen allowed five hits and had only one walk on the mound and improved to 2-0 on the season as Baxter’s baseball team downed Dunkerton 11-3.
The win for the Bolts snapped a five-game losing streak.
Nelsen also had two hits, two RBIs and one run at the plate.
Derrick Klemme was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run, while Brendyn Padget both and Rory Heer each had two hits.
Heer scored three runs and walked twice and Padget scored two runs and had one RBI. Cody Damman scored twice.
Baxter hosted Don Bosco on June 3, traveled to Clarksville on June 4 and went to Colo-NESCO on June 5. The Bolts host Collins-Maxwell at 5 p.m. on June 6 in Baxter.
GMG 11, Baxter 1, 5 innings
GREEN MOUNTAIN — Cole Damman took the loss on the mound as the Bolts baseball team lost to GMG 11-1 in five innings on May 29.
Damman allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings. Ian Thomson tossed the final inning, allowing one run on two hits and struck out two.
The Bolts (2-5, 0-2) had three hits at the plate, one each from Damman, Nelsen and Patrick Kennedy. Damman also walked once, stole two bases and scored a run. Kennedy walked once and had an RBI.
Lynnville-Sully 19, Baxter 3
BAXTER — The Bolts played Lynnville-Sully in a non-conference home game on May 30, and Baxter struggled to get outs in a 19-3, three-inning loss.
The Bolts led 2-0 after one inning, but the Hawks scored five in the second and 14 in the third to end things early. Baxter’s third run came in the bottom of the third.
Cole Damman had one walk, two runs and two steals offensively. Klemme had two hits, one steal and one walk.
Klemme took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 earned runs on nine hits with five walks and one strikeout.
Thomson got one out but allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits.
Jake Travis pitched to one batter and got the final batter with a strikeout.
