CSI: Iowa

6 p.m. Wednesday — Jump into the world of fingerprints, bullet fragments, and blood splatter during CSI: Iowa. Join retired Des Moines Police Crime Scene Investigator, Greg Gourd to learn about the real-world challenges of forensics and discuss procedures that investigators use to collect and document evidence at a crime scene. Learn the facts and myths of forensics at this fascinating event. This program is free to attend and open to the public.

Library Closed

Thursday — The Newton Public Library will be closed from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday for a city staff event. The library will open to the public at 12:30 pm.

Teen Board Game Club

4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday — Join us for our new Teen Board Game Club. Learn how to play games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, King of Tokyo, Dixit, Zooloretto and Forbidden Island. New players and expert players are welcome. No registration necessary, snack will be served, please contact Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108 if you have any food allergies we need to be aware of.

Bibliophile Book Club

1 p.m. April 24 — Join our library book club for a discussion of "Song of Years" by Bess Streeter Aldrich. Request your copy of the book at the library information desk or by calling 641-792-4108. New members always welcome.

The Midwest’s Gangster Past

4 p.m. and 6 p.m. April 25 — Put on your zoot suit and join presenter Chad Lewis to follow in the footsteps of the Midwest's most infamous gangsters. Filled with deadly bank robberies, explosive shootouts, and daring kidnappings, this presentation showcases the locations in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota where gangster history will never die. This program will be presented at 4 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. No registration required.

Tuesday Tea with Austen

10 a.m. April 30 — Join our Jane Austen book club for a discussion of "Mansfield Park." Copies of the book may be requested at the library information desk or by calling 641-792-4108. Tea and light refreshments will be served. New members always welcome.

Paint Along Class

6 p.m. May 6 — Art instructor, Katie Craney leads a step-by-step acrylic painting class for adults. Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron, all other materials provided. This event requires a free ticket to attend. You may pick up your free ticket at the library circulation desk on May 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Participants must be present to claim a ticket. Ages 18 and older.
