Sweet as candy

“Dads and daughters are so sweet, come and show us your dancing feet!” The invitation to the 2019 Father Daughter Dance says it all for the candy themed event.

Hosted by the Mustang Scholars Preschool, the dance is set for 6 to 8 p.m. April 6 at the Family Life Center, 105 N. Sherman St. in Prairie City. Candy is not only the theme for the dance but the snacks and decorations, too.

“I have table cloths and they will be rainbow colored. I also have candy shaped balloons and clay suckers for table decorations,” organizer Brittany George said. “I will have a candy bar and candy on tables.”

Along with the candy bar, seasoned pretzels and Chex Mix will be out for a salty snack and cupcakes will complement the candy as another tasty decoration. The dance will also feature a cash raffle, photographer to take pictures of dads and daughters, a DJ who, along with playing the best tunes, has a few games to play and board games to play.

Girls age three-years-old to those in sixth grade can dance the night away with their dad, uncle, grandpa or special guy in the little girl’s life.

“Last year’s dance had a total of 260 dads and daughters and raised close to $3,000 for Mustang Scholars Preschool,” George said.

Funds raised by the dance are used to retain the associate position at the preschool and for supplies used by the school.

Prior to the dance, girls can get extra special attention prepping for the night at the Pamper Your Princess event. The package includes hair, makeup and nails for the girls and will take place between 3 and 5:30 p.m. at the Prairie City First Reformed Church, 300 E. Fifth St., the day of the dance.

“Pamper Your Princess involves girls getting their nails painted, makeup done and a cute updo or whatever hairstyle they want and glitter in their hair, also,” George said.

After the girls have danced the night away, complete with glow necklaces, and are full of sugar, they will go home with a small gift to remember the event.

“I am honored to be the one organizing this event for the community this year,” George said. “I’m hoping for the daughters to just have a fun time and make memories with their dads or special guy they bring. Also, to raise money to help make the preschool better and keep the program going.”
