Colfax-Mingo junior Brady Berkey was the only returning starter from a Tigerhawk team that won 15 games last season.
This year’s Colfax-Mingo team had lots of newbies and inexperience, but Berkey was one of the best players in the South Iowa Cedar League and he was recognized as such with a first-team selection.
The Tigerhawks, who won four conference games, had three total all-conference picks as senior Zarek Hill and junior David Rague were both honorable mention selections.
For Lynnville-Sully, which finished second in the SICL West Division, seniors Rylan James and Tyson Vander Linden were both named to the second team and senior Gage Vander Leest and junior Blaize Kuhlmann each claimed honorable mention recognition.
Berkey was one of the top scorers in the SICL, averaging 19.6 points per game. He also averaged 6.7 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block per game. Berkey connected on 43.5 percent of his shots from the floor and 67 percent from the free-throw line while making 36 3-pointers.
In conference play, Berkey ranked third with a 20.4 points per game average and grabbed 6.7 rebounds, dished out four assists, collected 2.3 steals and blocked one shot per contest. He shot 44 percent from the floor and 69.3 percent from the line while hitting 26 treys.
Hill was the team’s second-leading scorer at 11 points per game. He also averaged three rebounds, two assists and 1.87 steals per contest, while shooting 40 percent from the floor and 39 percent from the line. He also hit 31 3-pointers.
In conference play, Hill averaged 9.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.86 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He made 37.7 percent of his shots from the floor, connected on 45.5 percent from the line and buried 18 3-pointers.
Rague, in his first season with Colfax-Mingo, averaged 5.3 points, three rebounds, 1.87 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He shot 33 percent from the floor and 33 percent from the line while making 13 3-pointers.
In conference play, Rague averaged 5.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He shot 33.7 percent from the floor and 31 percent from the line while hitting nine 3-pointers.
James led Lynnville-Sully in scoring and rebounding. He averaged 13.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and one block per game and also tallied 10 assists and four steals. James shot 58 percent from the floor and 55 percent from the line.
In conference play, James averaged 14.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and one block per game while adding nine assists and one steal. He made 60 percent from the floor and connected on 51.4 percent of his free throws.
Vander Linden averaged 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.33 steals per game while leading the Hawks in assists at four per contest. He shot 42 percent from the floor, 69 percent from the line and connected on 29 3-pointers.
Vander Linden improved his scoring average to 14 points per game in conference while leading the Hawks at 3.73 assists per contest. He also grabbed 4.4 rebounds and collected 1.47 steals per game while connecting on 46 percent from the floor and 65.4 percent from the line. Vander Linden made 22 3-pointers.
Kuhlmann averaged in double-figures at 10 points per game and also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and two steals per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the floor, 46 percent from 3-point range and 82.4 percent from the line. He made a team-best 45 3-pointers.
In conference play, Kuhlmann averaged 9.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.93 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He made 44.4 percent from the floor, 44 percent from 3-point range and 81.5 percent from the line. Kuhlmann buried 29 treys.
Vander Leest averaged 3.3 points, four rebounds and 1.14 steals per game while dishing out 10 total assists. He shot 34.3 percent from the field.
In conference play, Vander Leest averaged 2.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.13 steals per game while dishing out five assists. He made 24.6 percent from the floor.
