‘As it is in Heaven’ to be shown at DMACC

“As It Is in Heaven,” a 2004 Swedish film that was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2005 Academy Awards, will be shown at noon and again at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Room 118 at Newton DMACC.

Shown in connection with DMACC’s “Year of Sweden” project, “As It Is in Heaven” follows Daniel Dareus, a world-renowned concert violinist, conductor and composer who has decided to retire in the small village in which he grew up, although he was bullied there for his love of music. He sets up a home base in the now abandoned schoolhouse and, by chance, is asked by a local to critique the talent of the Lutheran Church choir. Soon he is volunteering to direct the group, makes friends, and begins to steer the choir in new directions. The village is never the same afterwards.

Portraying Daniel is the late Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist (1960-2017), best known for his role as the protagonist investigator in the 2009 trilogy of films about Lisbeth Selander, based on the novels by Stieg Larsson: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.”

The film will be shown in Swedish with English substitles. The public is invited to attend.
