• Nathan J. Greene, 33, of Newton, was charged with public intoxication at 1:51 p.m. Friday. According to Newton police, an officer was sent to Forest View Apartments for a report of a male going through the dumpster. The officer found the man, Greene, at a nearby Casey’s store. While talking to Greene, the officer could detect an odor of alcohol coming from Greene. After failing sobriety tests, Greene was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Joshua R. Fahrenkrug, 30, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 9:09 p.m. Friday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Walmart for a theft. Upon arrival, the suspect fled the scene and officers were unable to locate the suspect. Store employees gave officers a photo of the suspect, identifying him as Fahrenkrug. Officers also learned he had allegedly taken $67.85 worth of items without paying. Fahrenkrug was summoned to appear in court.
