Newton Police Department

• Jarrett C. Eicher, 26, of Newton, was charged with third-degree theft at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 18. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Walmart for shoplifting. Officers interviewed the store’s asset protection employees who informed them Eicher allegedly pushed a cart with merchandise outside of the store without paying for any of it. The employee mentioned they heard an alarm go off in the lawn and garden area and saw Eicher jump in a dark SUV and drive off with $787.37 worth of items, including a TV, sound bar and sunglasses. Officers eventually found Eicher, arrested him and transported him to the Jasper County Jail.
