Short-handed Tigerhawks go 1-2 at road quadrangular

NORTH ENGLISH — Colfax-Mingo’s wrestling team battled with a short-handed lineup and finished 1-2 in a quadrangular hosted by English Valleys on Tuesday night.

The Tigerhawks ended their night with a 48-24 win over Sigourney-Keota.

They opened with a 51-24 loss to Fairfield and were edged out 39-35 by host English Valleys.

Junior Cyden Fitch was the lone Tigerhawk to go 3-0 on the night.

Seniors Damir Gumerov and Skyler Aikin, juniors Josh Smith, Tim Carroll and Trystin Ross and freshmen Kenny Schlosser and Gabe Gwinn all went 2-1.

The Tigerhawks (8-3) were missing Class 1A No. 8 Cauy Fitch at 120 pounds and junior Noah Strohmeyer at 106 because of illness.

The Tigerhawks were 4-3 in contested matches against Sigourney-Keota. Carroll, Gumerov, Aikin and Schlosser all won by fall, and Gwinn, Cyden Fitch, Smith and senior Ilia Hostetter all won by forfeit.

Colfax-Mingo was 3-7 in contested matches against Fairfield. Cyden Fitch, Ross and Gumerov all won by pin.

Schlosser also took a forfeit at heavyweight.

English Valleys had a 5-4 advantage in contested matches against Colfax-Mingo.

For the Tigerhawks, Gwinn, Smith and Cyden Fitch each won by fall and Ross claimed a 16-1 technical fall win. Carroll and Aikin both took forfeits.

English Valleys recorded four pins and took two forfeits in its narrow victory.

Colfax-Mingo returns to action against Prairie City-Monroe, Gilbert and Roland-Story at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Monroe.
