Lynnville-Sully wrestlers take on three teams

MARENGO — Brady Sassman won his first varsity wrestling match on Tuesday. The Lynnville-Sully freshman was one of three Hawk wrestlers to win contested matches on the night.

Sassman pinned Eli Slaymaker of Highland at the 1:15 mark of their 182-pound match. There were only two contested matches in the dual in which Highland won 42-24.

Lynnville-Sully went 0-3 in duals hosted by Iowa Valley. Iowa Valley beat the Hawks, 66-12, and Interstate 35 defeated Lynnville-Sully, 78-6.

Against Highland, Lynnville-Sully freshman Miles Mintle was pinned by Cael Yeggy at 195. The Hawks seniors Ben Van Wyk (120) and Ty Breeden (138) and sophomore CJ Snethen (132) earned wins by forfeits.

Breeden recorded the lone win for the Hawks against Interstate 35. Breeden pinned Lucas Green in 5:24 at 138. Van Wyk, Snethen, Sassman and Mintle each lost by a fall.

In the dual with Iowa Valley, senior Caleb Barnett wrestled at 195 for the Hawks. He needed 3:15 to pin Brody Hoyt. Snethen won by forfeit.

Van Wyk, Breeden and Sassman lost by pins against Iowa Valley.

The Hawk wrestling team is slated to compete at the North Polk tournament in Alleman on Saturday. Matches start at 9:30 a.m.
