Newton Police Department

• Adam W. Wadsworth, 41, of Des Moines, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:49 p.m. Dec. 4. According to Newton police, officers received information regarding a location of an individual with a warrant within the 1800 block of West Fourth Street North. Officers went to the location, identified Wadsworth and found him with a green leafy substance and drug paraphernalia within a small black bag. Wadsworth admitted the items were his and he was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shannon I. Bird, 43, of Newton, was charged with disorderly conduct at 6:51 p.m. Dec. 7. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Boulder Inn for a belligerent drunk person in the bar area. Officers spoke with hotel staff and witnesses who saw Bird allegedly wandering around the halls yelling, causing distress for everyone around. Bird was found in his room, placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Mary A. Steward, 55, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 7:53 p.m. Sunday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to the 1500 block of First Avenue East on a call of shoplifting. Upon arrival, officers met with Steward, who reportedly admitted to walking past the point of sale with the merchandise to get food stamps from her car. Steward received a citation, summoning her to appear in court.
