Newton man allegedly forced himself on ex-girlfriend, charged with sexual abuse

Donald K. Sutton III, 21, of Newton, was charged with second-degree sexual abuse at 1:30 p.m. Monday after he allegedly forced his ex-girlfriend to perform sexual acts after coercing his way into her home.

According to the Jasper County Clerk of Court, Sutton’s bond was set at $10,000, which he posted Sept. 14 and was released from the Jasper County Jail.

According to a report from Newton Police, Sutton told investigators he wanted to see the house of his ex-girlfriend on Newton’s southeast side. When Sutton arrived, the victim let him inside where he allegedly slammed her against the wall, choked her with his hands, slapped her, banged her head on the floor, pulled a knife on her and put her in a headlock, the police report stated.

The victim told officers she tried to defend herself by biting Sutton’s arm and scratching him. The victim also attempted to run out the back door, but Sutton allegedly pushed her down the stairs into the basement.

In the report, investigators painted a gruesome picture of what happened next, stating the basement is where Sutton allegedly forced the victim to perform sexual acts. Sutton reportedly closed the basement door and trapped her in the room for several minutes.

Police said Sutton walked the victim’s parent’s house after the incident and allegedly threatened her and her family if she said anything about the events.

Sutton’s next court date is Sept. 24 for a preliminary hearing.
