Looking for ideas for your next outdoor project? Then the Newton Arboretum and Botanical Garden’s “Garden Walk” is the perfect event.

Set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the Garden Walk will feature seven local garden’s throughout the city of Newton.

All proceeds from the event will go to the nonprofit Project AWAKE, which supports the Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Fundraisers throughout the year have allowed the organization to add new doors and windows to the building, care for the garden and landscape and even add a new pergola.

According to Kay Rowray Purtilo, board member for Project AWAKE and co-chair of this year’s Garden Walk, tickets are available for $10 if bought before Friday afternoon and will be $12 anytime after that. Tickets can be bought at Mattingly Music & Books or the FNNB Bank.

“We’re really excited because there will be something for everyone,” Rowray Purtilo said. “There will be perennials, annuals, container gardens, woodland plants and we will even see a moon garden with all white flowers.”

Rowray Purtilo explained those participating in the event will need their own transportation from garden to garden. The event will take place rain or shine as well.

“Every penny (from the Garden Walk) goes directly back to the Arboretum,” Rowray Purtilo said. “I truly believe the Arboretum is one of Newton’s hidden treasures.”

Rowray Purtilo encourages citizens to come support Project AWAKE at the Garden Walk Saturday and the whole year. They are always in need of volunteers throughout the year for events during summer, RAGBRAI, Christmas and more.
