President Trump’s zero tolerance immigration policy

As citizens of this great country that we are blessed to live in comes with responsibilities. When we see actions that are gravely immoral, as President Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy, we have to speak out. This is what I am doing with this letter to the editor.

We have to hold our leaders accountable and when asked to do something that is so blatantly wrong, we have the obligation to say no. At least five governors announced Tuesday they would pull state troops from the southern border or cancel planned deployments in response to President Trump’s zero tolerance immigration policy. I for one applaud this decision.

I would encourage you to contact your state representatives and voice your opinion also. Together, we can stop this policy from being followed. When I attended Saint Ambrose University, I had business ethics class where I was taught to ask myself the following three questions when faced with a tough decision to make: Will my action be legal? Will my action be ethical? And finally, will my action be moral? If the action will not result in a yes to these three question than it is not correct course to follow. I think it is time our leaders start asking these three questions before deciding on what course of action to take that effects all of us.
