Vera Krampe

Vera Krampe, 85, of Baxter, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 21 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter. Her funeral service will at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Bethany UCC with Pastor Jeff Whitt officiating. A private family burial will take place in Bethany Cemetery in Baxter.

Vera was born July 4, 1932, in Cedar Falls, to Eddie and Christine (Jensine) Andersen. She was raised in Grinnell, and attended Grinnell High School where she graduated with the class of 1950. Following school, she attended the Pitze’s Cosmetology School in Waterloo, where she earned her beautician certificate. Her first job was in Marshalltown, at the Forest Park Dance Club and that’s where she met Arthur Krampe. The couple was set up on a blind date and later married at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell, January 15, 1956. They made their home on the Krampe farm just east of Baxter. Vera did hair at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Baxter for more than 40 years. She was very active member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter, where she taught Sunday school for numerous years. Vera also belonged to the Ever Ready Club, Red Hat Club and was a part of the Quilting Group at the church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, decorating cakes, attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, socializing and giving and receiving hugs.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Randy (Debbie) Krampe, Connie (David) Wendel and Karen (Jeff) Whitt; grandchildren, Kyle (Abbey) Krampe, Lisa (Pete) Peterson, Aaron (Lacey) Wendel, Joel (Sandra) Wendel, Elizabeth Larson-Whitt, Taylor (Madison) Whitt, Alec Whitt and Caeleigh Whitt; great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Krampe, Kamdyn Krampe, Paityn Peterson, Landrey Peterson, Presley Peterson, Gage Wendel, Drew Wendel, Samantha Wendel, Gracie Forney and Aria Wendel; sister, Mary Moffitt; sisters-in-law, Alice Robinson, Marge (Ed) Frohbeiter, Erika Krampe and Edith (George) Allspach; many nieces, nephews and friends. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art; baby, Wendel; grandson, Ryan Whitt; sister-in-law, Joanne Tipton; brothers-in-law, Gerald “Gunny” Robinson, Dale Tipton, Dick Albee and Armin Krampe; nieces, Evelyn Williams and Jennifer Smith.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
