Baxter’s Meyer earns all-conference honor

JESUP — The Baxter girls’ golf team has its first all-conference player.

Sophomore Sadie Meyer shot a 108 at Jesup Golf and Country Club on May 7 to earn all-conference honors at the Iowa Star Conference tournament.

Meyer shot a 56 on the front nine and a 52 on the back nine. She placed fifth overall and was three shots clear of sixth place.

“Sadie was just consistent,” Baxter golf coach Zach Hasselbrink said. “She never got too high, nor too low, was patient, made great decisions on shot and club selection and it led to an all-conference medal. I am extremely proud of her. She really hadn’t played much golf in her life when she started last year. A year later, she is an all-conference player. That’s just amazing.”

North Tama’s Claire Schaefer won medalist honors with a 93, and her teammate Olivia Schrier was the runner-up with a 97.

There were five programs who had enough golfers for a team score. Baxter finished fourth with a 498. North Tama won the meet with a 446, while Don Bosco was the runner-up with a 451 and Tripoli finished third with a 475. The Bolts defeated Dunkerton, which was fifth with a 553.

“I am proud of the way the girls battled a tough course,” Hasselbrink said. “It was a good day for us.”

The rest of Baxter’s scoring golfers were junior Piper Larson with a 129, sophomore Mikayla McKnight with a 130 and sophomore Abbey Shepley with a 131. Junior Gracie Beathards shot a 145 as a non-counting scorer.
