Baxter boys defeat Colo-NESCO

COLO — Without its top golfer, the Baxter boys’ golf team defeated Colo-NESCO at Twin Anchors Golf Course on Monday night.

Junior Austin Good was with the Bolts’ track team and sophomore Shane Beougher also was not with the team, but the Bolts finished second in a triangular on its former home course.

The Bolts scored a 229 on the day. GMG won the meet with a 163. Colo-NESCO only had two golfers.

Six of GMG’s seven golfers shot 44 or better. Ryan Hunt was the meet medalist with a 39. Kolton Gill was the runner-up with a 40.

Freshman Sean Finch led the Bolts for the first time this season with a career-best 54. Sophomore Christian Brandt shot a personal-best 56, freshman Andrew Klemme carded a personal-best 59 and junior Seth Williams’ 60 was the final counting score. Juniors Matthew Grimes (62) and Derrick Klemme (61) had non-counting scores.

“In his second meet, Sean Finch hit the ball consistent and straight,” Baxter coach Zach Hasselbrink said. “That led to a solid score on a short course.”

The Baxter girls lost to Colo-NESCO, which also has golfers from Collins-Maxwell.

Colo-NESCO defeated the Bolts 191-221. Abbie Ericson was the medalist with a 43, and Brynne Pritchard shot a 44 for runner-up medalist honors.

For Baxter, junior Piper Larson shot a season-best 50.

Sophomores Abbey Shepley and Sadie Meyer both carded 56s and sophomore Mikayla McKnight turned in a season-best 59 to complete the scoring.

“Piper had a nice night, and did a lot of good things,” Hasselbrink said. “Abbey hit the ball well but struggled with putting on a few holes. Hopefully when we go back there Monday her score will be better with some improved putting.”
