PCM girls edged out by 4A Ames

AMES — The PCM girls played on a tough course and against a 4A squad, but the Mustangs held their own during head-to-head dual with Ames on April 12.

The Mustangs shot a 216 on the day, falling to the Little Cyclones by six strokes at Veenker Memorial Golf Course.

PCM picked up this meet after its home dual against Pleasantville was washed up and won’t be made up.

“The course was a lot longer and had tough greens,” PCM girls coach Tony Ford said. “I was proud of the team for grinding and taking on the challenge.”

Senior Sabrina Reed claimed runner-up medalist honors with a 50.

Senior Madeline Mitchell shot a 51, sophomore Gabbi Van Baale carded a personal-best 56 and junior Allison Wood turned in a 59.

Sophomores Alexis and Brooke Dross both finished with non-counting 64s.

Junior Mack Bussan turned in a 63 as a junior varsity golfer.

Ames’ Megan Riesselman won medalist honors with a 49. Taylor Balsey shot a 50.

The Mustang girls were scheduled to play in the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational on April 16 and in the West Marshall Invitational on April 17 but both tournaments were canceled.

PCM plays at 1 p.m. on April 19 at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.
