Baxter, Colfax-Mingo boys compete at ISU Classic

AMES — Colfax-Mingo and Baxter didn’t have their full boys track and field teams on Tuesday, but the Tigerhawks and Bolts each entered in a handful of events at the 25th annual Iowa State Boys High School Indoor Classic.

The top finisher from the area was sophomore Trinity Schroeder, who placed 28th in the long jump in a field of 76 jumpers. Schroeder’s best leap was 17 feet, 11 1/4 inches.

Also competing in the long jump were Baxter senior Travis Lindemoen and Colfax-Mingo senior Reegan Van Dyke. Lindemoen was 42nd with a jump of 16-10 3/4, while Van Dyke finished 59th with a leap of 15-9 1/2.

The top relay finish came from the Tigerhawks in the 4x400. Colfax-Mingo placed 26th out of 44 teams who did not use blocks and started on a double waterfall.

There also was a 4x400 relay invitational that featured two heats of eight teams and those runners were able to use blocks in their own lanes.

The Tigerhawks’ 4x400 relay team included Schroeder, Van Dyke and juniors Holister Koenig and Zarek Hill, and they finished in 3 minutes, 48.61 seconds.

The Tigerhawks’ 4x800 relay team of senior Nick Barnes, junior Cauy Fitch, senior Alex Lewis and sophomore Zack Barnes finished 42nd in a field of 61 teams with a time of 9:42.89.

Baxter and Colfax-Mingo each had individual competitors in the 60-meter dash, the 1,600 run and the shot put.

In the shot put, Colfax-Mingo junior Isaac Clouse finished 57th with a throw of 37-3 1/4, and senior Colton Lourens was 64th with a toss of 36-1. There were 100 throwers in all.

In the 60 dash, senior Braydon Aker was 69th with a time of 7.76 seconds. Junior Xander Huff finished 79th in 7.80.

The 1,600 run featured four area runners.

The top finisher was junior Ian Thomson, who ended up 69th in a field of 118 runners. Thomson finished in 5:15.55.

Baxter junior Josh Bruntz was 79th in 5:23.09. Fitch wound up 86th with a time of 5:26.41 and Lewis was 105th in 5:49.83.

Colfax-Mingo’s next indoor competition is the South Iowa Cedar League meet at Grinnell College at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Both programs will take part in the first-ever Tigerhawk Invitational at Grinnell College at 4:30 p.m. on March 22.
